DOHA: Katara Cultural Village in collaboration with Indian Embassy in Doha, Qatar Embassy in New Delhi and the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts, has launched an exhibition by famous Qatari artist Hassan Al Mulla in New Delhi.
Al Mulla is one of the leading innovators who played an important role in establishing the Qatari art movement.
The exhibition, which runs till May 7, features 24 paintings in which the Qatari artist expresses his artistic vision, reflecting realistic, surrealistic, abstract, and so on.
On this occasion, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara, said: “Katara continuously supports the Qatari creativity in various fields, both inside and outside Qatar through cooperation agreements with many centres, institutions and cultural foundationsto introduce Qatari artists’works.”
He added that the exhibition of Al Mulla will be the best ambassador reflecting the rich Qatari culture and Qatari experience.
He also pointed out that this event is not only an exhibition of a Qatari artist, but an integrated artistic vision that summarises the great experience of Al Mulla in the world of fine art and colours deserving of reflection and appreciation. It also gives visitors the opportunity to learn about the cultural characteristics of Qatari society.
Al Sulaiti thanked the Indian Embassy in Doha, Qatar’s Embassy in New Delhi and the Indira Gandhi National Center for their cooperation in realising this exhibition.
For his part, Al Mulla said: “I worked on these paintings using the ocean as inspiration and selecting a part of nature to express my thoughts with the use of some symbols and popular models, in addition to Arabic calligraphy as basic artistic value of Islamic culture.”
Al Mulla’s paintings emphasise his interest in the beauty of local culture. His career began in his early childhood years as he lived in old houses, fishing boats and the natural environment, and the people who settled in his memory were the heroes of the scenes he kept in his soul that influenced him deeply in his paintings.
The artist was born in 1951 in Doha and completed his art studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Baghdad.
He is an active and leading member of the Qatar Fine Arts Society and has participated in many exhibitions and festivals of art and culture at the local and international levels.
