On the occasion of the National Sport Day, Youth Forum, a Keralite socio-cultural youth organisation, together with Qatar Olympic Committee, is organising a mega event of sport and game competitions for Indian community organisations and groups in Qatar.
The event ‘Pravasi Kayikamela’ (Expats Sports Fest) will be held on Friday and February 12 at Al Arabi Club. The ‘Pravasi Kayikamela’, being organised in solidarity with Qatar’s National Sport Day aims to create awareness about the importance of sports and physical activities, as well as fostering healthy relationship among members of Indian community organisations in Qatar. Sixteen organisations and Group have registered for the contest.
Events include track events such as 100m, 200m & 1500m races along with Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Javelin Throw and Arm Wrestling.
Volleyball, 4x100 metre Relay, Shuttle Badminton and Tug-of-War are the group events to be held.
Participating organisations can register two contestants for each event and one team for each group event.
Preliminary rounds of the competitions are scheduled for Friday and the finals will be held on the National Sport Day on February 12. Prizes will be awarded for the first three places in each competition.
Besides, an individual championship and an overall team championship trophy will also be given.
Incas Calicut, MAP Qatar, MAK Kozhikode, Vepex Thrissur, DIVA Kasargod, KIMS Qatar, TDIA Thrissur, Pravasi Vadakara, Kozhikode Pravasi Association Qatar, Mathilakam kootam, Cheriya Kumbalam Gathering, KDIA Kannur, SKIA, Kodiyathur Area Service Forum, Youth Club — Al Khor and Indian Islamic Association are the organisations and groups participating in the mega sports event.
An Organising committee is formed with VT Faizal as Chairman, Mohamed Shabeer, Vice Chairman, Abdul Rehman Hassanar, General Convener and Ahmed Shafi, Coordinator. Qatar and Indian government officials will be present at the opening ceremony.
