Qatar to attend Baku heritage meet

Doha: Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, will participate in the eighth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Baku, Azerbaijan, from today until December 7.
The gathering will be held within the framework of “Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage”, meetings developed by Unesco in 2003.
The agreement seeks to achieve the maintenance of intangible cultural heritage, and its respect by the communities and groups concerned to raise awareness at the local, national and international levels about importance of intangible cultural heritage, in enhancing international cooperation and international assistance. 
The Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage H E Dr Hamad Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, said, “The participation of the Ministry of Culture in the eighth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage comes from the belief in the importance of documenting the Arab cultural heritage, and at the heart of which is the Palestinian cultural heritage.” 
He praised the international efforts to preserve, protect and disseminate cultural heritage, especially in light of the rapid changes and transformations, which the world is witnessing nowadays. He also praised the joint Arab action efforts in the maintaining the intangible cultural heritage, stressing the need to develop a list of Arab intangible cultural heritage in order to succeed in the international arena.
