DOHA: The Qatar Table Tennis Federation (QTTF) will organise a number of international and domestic tournaments along with sending it’s players in the competitions abroad, according to the calendar revealed for the 2018-19 season by the QTTF yesterday.
QTTF announced that the highly-anticipated Qatar Open, which attracts world’s best players will be played from March 28 to 31 next year.
While the main rounds of the 23rd edition of Qatar Open will start on March 28, the two-day qualification stage for the high profile competition will begin on March 26 to 27.
Qatar Open was first held in 1994 with a couple of breaks in 2000 and 2004 when Asian and World Championships were held in those two seasons.
More than 200 players from 43 countries will be seen action in the season-opener of the 2019 World Tour Platinum.
The World Tour Platinum is a six-destination series that will also see events in German, China, Korea, Australia and Austria.
In last year’s men’s singles title clash, Fan Zhendong of China beat Hugo Calderano of Brazil to claim top honour .
Meanwhile, the QTTF said the men’s league will commence on February 2 and closes on March 2. The Qatar Cup will be played from Feb 18 to March 10. The Amir Cup - the season’s biggest tournament will be played from April 30 to May 23.
The Qatar Youth Championship will be a two-day affair, and will be played on February 5 and 6.
A number of Qatar national team players will also take part in the Belgium International Table Tennis Championship from October 23 to 27, and the Hungarian Junior International Championship from November 7 to 11, 2018, it was announced.
Al Sadd and Qatar SC will feature at the Arab Club Championship in Tunis from November 2 to 8.
The first event will take place on October 20, the second on November 17 and the third on February 9, 2019. The final event will be played on March 16.
