Doha Municipality shuts supermarket and eatery

DOHA: Doha Municipality closed one supermarket and a restaurant after inspection. The store is located in the Industrial Area and it was shut down for violating Law number 8/1999. Meanwhile the mentioned restaurant failed to follow the Health and Safety Law.
This Department conducted a total of 789 inspection tours last week, 373 of which were regular or surprise inspections, 57 were visits to beauty salons, 80 took place in the Industrial Area, 49 in the central market and 230 were at the meat market. A total of 83 inspections resulted in health violations. Among the total inspections, the Municipality decided to leave 37 shops under follow up surveillance.
The Municipality has received 16 complaints from citizens. After the inspection, 42 tons and 152 kilos of food were destroyed because they were not fit for human consumption, including 4 tons and 252 kilos of meat and 1 tonne 925kilos of fish. A total of 25 food samples were taken to the laboratory for check up.
The municipality has also issued three new licenses for cafeterias and renewed one for a restaurant. This department implements and enforces the rules and regulations against violations for health and safety.
