Doha: A unique exhibition entitled “Wings of Qatar” presenting 100 photos of birdlife in Qatar, opened on Sunday at Qatar University’s Library and will continue for the next three months. The exhibition which is open to the public, was organised in association with Doha Koottam, a group of amateur photographers from around the world.
The event was attended by QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, Chairman of Friends of the Environment Center and VP Chairperson of Qatar Foundation Dr Seif Al Hajiri, QU Library Head of Public Service Katia Medawar, faculty, staff and students.
In her remarks, Medawar said: “It is a great pleasure for us to host this unique event for the first time. The Library selected the theme of birds for its first exhibition, with 100 photo frames showing the beauty and uniqueness of each species to showcase to the public the ecological treasure in Qatar. It is the first in a series of exhibitions the Library will undertake during this academic year”.
The Exhibition was meant to be inaugurated last June on World Environmental Day, but was postponed due to final exams schedule. “By launching it at this time, we expect many QU and other students and members of the public to visit it”, she added.
QU Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences Assistant Professor Dr Nobuyuki Yamaguchi, remarked: “There are three reasons why I am so excited about this exhibition.
Firstly, and most importantly, this wonderful exhibition makes people enjoy and appreciate the beautiful nature and rich biodiversity of the State of Qatar. Secondly, it is held in QU’s new library, which is one of the centers for research and education at QU. Thirdly, students can learn about wildlife behavior, ecology, and biodiversity conservation. In this respect, QU is the perfect venue for this exhibition. I hope many people will come with their families and friends over the next three months to enjoy it”.
The Exhibition is open to the public on Sunday to Thursday during Library opening hours, 7:30am–10pm, and on Saturday from 8am-3pm.
