New Delhi: Lt Gen (Retd) K S Brar (pictured), who led the army operation into the Golden Temple in June 1984, was injured after he was attacked in London, Indian officials confirmed here yesterday.

Brar was on a “private visit to London” when he was attacked, an official of the external affairs ministry said.

The Indian government is in touch with the authorities in London, the official said.

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna is to make a statement on the issue, he added.

According to news reports, Brar who led Operation Blue Star against Sikh militants hiding inside the Golden Temple, was stabbed by three men outside his hotel.

His wife told NDTV: “We were walking down Oxford Circus at 10.30 pm in the night. Three bearded men attacked him and tried to slash his throat. We cannot say if they were Sikh. I was standing by watching and called for help. The ambulance was there within minutes and we rushed him to hospital. “

Brar was on the hit-list of Sikh militant groups.
