President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) and the Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU), Khalil Al Mohannadi, with Qatar players and officials during the West Asian Table Tennis Championship in Amman, Jordan.
Doha: Qatar table tennis team raised their medal tally at the West Asian Table Tennis Championship, hosted by Jordan, to 15 (6 gold medals, 2 silver and 7 bronze) to occupy the top spot among 12 participating nations.
The Championship which kicked off on July 26 at Prince Hamzah Hall in the Jordanian capital, Amman, will continue until August 5.
Qatar’s medals came in the singles and doubles competitions.
The President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA), the Arab Table Tennis Union and the Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU) Khalil Al Mohannadi praised the achievements of Qatari paddlers.
Al Mohannadi who is also the First Vice-President of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), said: "Thank God for this great achievement. Without a doubt, winning six gold medals in the West Asian Championship, and 15 medals in total, is not easy at all."
"The results that were achieved did not come from easily. It was due to the commitment of all players and the technical team, and also the support of the federation."
Al Mohannadi also emphasised the great support of the Qatari Olympic Committee which contributed to the achievement.
"We look forward to more and whish everyone the best of luck for the upcoming events.
Khalid Al Kwuari, the manager of the national team, said: "We reached six finals and we succeeded in winning all of them. We also won the first place in the male category, which is a great and amazing achievement."
