The State of Qatar and Kazakhstan have been enjoying a very special relationship and the latter marks 25 years of global and regional diplomacy. In this proud moment, reports recollect the best achievements Kazakhstan enjoys in its relationship with Qatar.
It was on July 1 1993, Joint Communiqué on Establishing Diplomatic Relations Between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the State of Qatar was signed. Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the State of Qatar opened in May 2007. The Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Qatar starting from November 1 2014 is A Shokybayev. Embassy of the State of Qatar in the Republic of Kazakhstan has been functioning since October 2016. Since October 10, 2016 Ahmed bin Ali Al Tamimi has assumed his mission as the new Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
On May 23-25, 1998, the first official visit of President of Kazakhstan N Nazarbayev to Qatar took place as part of a tour in the Gulf region. On April 20-22 1999, the then Emir of Qatar H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani made his first official visit to Astana.
On March 10-11 2007 the President of Kazakhstan N Nazarbayev visited Qatar.
On March 4-5, 2008 the second official visit of the then Emir H H Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to Astana was held. On January 19, 2014 the first official visit of the new Emir of Qatar H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Kazakhstan took place. On October 25-26, 2015 the President of Kazakhstan N Nazarbayev visited Qatar on his third official visit.
Among the cooperation in trade and economic sphere an important mechanism is the Bilateral Kazakh-Qatari High Level Joint Commission. Up to date four Commission meetings (in Doha – June 2000 and October 2015 and in Astana – May 2001 and October 2009) were held. On October 18-19, 2015 Doha hosted the fourth meeting of the Kazakh-Qatari High Level Committee. The next meeting will be in autumn 2017 in Kazakh capital Astana.
