DOHA: An exhibition of paintings by Qatari artist Hassan Al Mullah opens tonight at Katara, Building 22.
Al Mullah is a creative pioneer who has played an important role in the founding of the Qatar fine arts movement and creating a prominent place for Qatari art internationally.
In the exhibition which runs until April 30, he presents to his audience 50 paintings he still keeps.
The paintings express a variety of topics, revealing various stages of his life and the influence of various schools of art on him, from realism to surrealism to abstraction and others.
His paintings confirm his interest in the beauty of the local culture, from his early childhood as he lived among old houses and fishing boats and the natural environment in all its details, among the people who occupied his memory and were the heroes of the scenes that marked deeply in his conscience.
He delves into the abstract style as black and white colours overshadow most of his artworks, while stark colours are prominent in some of his other works.
Al Mullah also integrates in his paintings the Arabic script with Arabic geometric shapes, and employs many other artistic materials and objects.
Al Mullah was born in 1951 in Doha and completed his art studies at School of Fine Arts,  Baghdad. An active member and leader of Qatar Fine Arts Society, he participated in many local and international exhibitions and cultural festivals.
He presented his first solo exhibition in 1988 in Doha.
