Doha: The Prime Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani chaired the Cabinet regular meeting today at its seat at the Amiri Diwan.
Following the meeting, the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Dr Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi stated the Cabinet decisions.
The cabinet approved establishing a global data centre for Microsoft in Qatar called "Azure Cloud Computing".
Microsoft Azure is a cloud computing service created by Microsoft for building, testing, deploying, and managing applications and services through a global network of Microsoft-managed data centres.
It provides software as a service, platform as a service and infrastructure as a service and supports many different programming languages, tools and frameworks, including both Microsoft-specific and third-party software and systems.
The Cabinet also took the necessary measures to issue a draft law establishing the Media City, after it reviewed the recommendation of the Shura Council.
Under the draft law, a city called "Media City" will be established, and shall have an independent budget. Its borders and coordinates will be determined by a Cabinet's decision.
The Media City aims at managing and developing media activity and attracting international media, technology companies, research and training institutions in the fields of media and digital media. It also aims to achieve economic and professional integration with the State's various projects and provide an interactive environment by licensed companies working in the media city.
