Doha: The Minister of Economy and Trade H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed Al Thani, visited the Sahara (desert) sand washing plant, a subsidiary of Qatar Primary Materials Company (QPMC), in Al Karaana.
The Ministry said in a press release issued yesterday that the Minister inspected the facilities at the plant such as the storage areas, the recycling and production process .
He commended the importance of the present and future plans and policies being applied with a view of maintaining the size of the sand stockpile available in this plant’s stations and discussed the strategy of QPMC to provide material sand. He was also briefed on the major challenges posed in this regard .
The plant was installed and commissioned in early 2009.
The visit comes within the framework of the Ministry of Economy and Trade’s efforts to control inventory and prices of primary construction materials. It was aimed at identifying the size of the company’s reserves of washed sand and strategic plans in place to ensure sufficient quantities of sat to meet future needs of the state, especially projects related to hosting the World Cup in 2022.
