More than 48 tonnes of dates sold at festival

The Minister of Municipality and Environment, H E Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, yesterday visited the second local fresh dates (Rotab) festival -2017 at Souq Waqif.
The Minister took a tour inside the tent and met with a number of farm owners who appreciated the Ministry’s efforts to make the festival a success.
Yousef Al Khulaifi, the Director of Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry, said that four new farms had joined the festival and the total number of farms attending the festival has reached 63. More than 11 tonnes of fresh dates were sold on Sunday.
The varieties of dates include which have sold include Khalas 6,360kg, 1,870kg of Shishi, 1,670kg of Khanizi, 1,189 kg of Barhi and 827 kg of several other types of dates.
The festival is organised by Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment at Souq Waqif and has received around 4,000 customers and visitors on Sunday.
The daily statistics shows that there is an increase in sales and more demand from visitors. A total of more than 48 tonnes of dates has been sold since the festival begun on Thursday.
