Amman: Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi emphasized that the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, resulting from the ongoing Israeli occupation aggression and the blockade preventing aid delivery, requires immediate international action to ensure the entry of humanitarian assistance through relevant UN agencies, in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law.
During his meeting with Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, Safadi stressed that the Israeli entity's denial of the Palestinian people's right to food and medicine constitutes a war crime and a blatant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and shared human values.
He called on the international community to respond promptly and effectively.
Safadi reaffirmed the central role of UNRWA, which has no substitute in Gaza and its other four areas of operation as mandated by the UN, and highlighted Jordan’s continued efforts to support the agency.
He also underscored the urgent need for collective efforts to immediately halt the Israeli aggression on Gaza and to reach a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire agreement.
