Doha: Oxford Learning Center (OLC) recently treated its students to a celebratory anniversary event at Bounce in Tawar Mall. The annual event was an opportunity for the Center to show appreciation for the students’ hard work and successful learning throughout the academic year.

Over 60 students, ranging in ages from 4-17 participated in the anniversary event. They were accompanied by Center Director Linda Obel and 15 OLC teachers. The fun activities included a variety of high flying somersaults, flips and crash dives, a Virtual Reality Zombie Apocalypse experience, a celebratory Oxford Learning anniversary cake decorated with the OLC colours —white, yellow and blue —and kids’ favourites, chips, nuggets, and pizza.

“This annual activity gives students the opportunity to come together to have fun and celebrate their achievements throughout the year. They’ve worked hard to up their academic levels and many have been successful in gaining places at some of the top schools in Doha”, Obel said. “Parents are happy with the results and positive changes they are seeing in their children’s self-confidence, motivation and learning so it is a moment for us to be proud of this and grateful for the continuing support we receive from them and the wider community”, she added.

One OLC student, Jenna, commented: “This was the best Thursday ever! I got to hang out with the other students from Oxford and get to know them better.”

OLC teacher, Mr. Robert, remarked: “This is a great opportunity to be with the students in a relaxing and fun environment where they can really kick up their heels (literally!) and enjoy the moment to celebrate their hard work and determination to do well.”

The Center currently engages private and independent school students in academic English and applied Mathematics lessons in weekday after-school and Saturday morning classes.

OLC’s teachers have a wide knowledge base and a range of teaching/learning skills which assist the students in advancing their literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking.

Obel also applauded the commitment and dedication of the teachers at the Center. “Our teachers are really the best. I can’t commend them enough,” she said, adding, “OLC is lucky to have such a talented group of teachers who spare no effort to draw students into the learning process and help them take ownership of their progress.”

Obel also noted that the event is the first of two that are annually organised by the Center. “Our Summer Camp program which starts when the school year ends is very popular and we expect strong enrolment for it. Within that program are event days such as Mad Science Fun Day and Sports Celebrity Day that we intersperse among the weekly tutoring schedule.

These weekly events have students engaged in sharing their creativity while appreciating the fun of summer learning. We are always keen to get students involved in improving their world knowledge and life skills that will prepare them for the future.” The Center also hosts The Little Readers Academy for 4-6-year- olds which meets five days a week for two hours each day, she added.
