Doha: Qatar Stars league winners Lekhwiya aim to clinch two more titles to complete a ‘historical trio’ says its Korean mid fielder Nam Tae-Hee in an interview with QSL.com.
“The Qatar Cup is for the top four teams and it means a lot to me. If we win the title, it will be our first. Also it will mean gaining our second title this season after the QSL title, with some big hopes to win the Emir Cup title as well, to achieve the historical trio.”
“Well our aim is to win the Qatar Cup and then the Emir Cup. We have a huge an ambitious target this year and we still want too well in the Asian Champions League too,” Tae-Hee said.
Tae-Hee is considered the beating heart of his team. He is one of the team’s main pillars and the team’s head coach Michael Laudrup will rely heavily on the Korean in the Qatar Cup final.
The big match kicks-off today at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium between Lekhwiya and El Jaish.
There is no doubt that Tae-Hee is a distinguished player with huge role in his team, but will the player continue his excellence and successful career with Lekhwiya? What are his expectations for the decisive confrontation against El Jaish? Will Lekhwiya be able to avenge their defeat in last year’s final to El Jaish?
All these questions were answered by the attacker.
Tae-Hee spoke about his thoughts on the match and how in last year’s final he missed a penalty!
Question: First of all, what do you think of the final versus El Jaish?
Answer: There is no doubt that it is going to be tough on both sides as we face a strong opponent with great players.
Q: What are your preparations for the match?
We are working and preparing hard for the final match through our training sessions led by the technical staff, especially now that we have reached another Qatar Cup final.
A: Is Lekhwiya capable of winning the title after losing last year’s one?
Yes we are. We will do our best. Everyone in the team from players, to technical staff and officials put lots of focus on this important game. On a personal level, I hope to win the title in order to compensate for my missed penalty last year.
Q: Do you think it could be penalties all over again?
A: No I am not, and I would definitely like emphasize on the fact that it was my first time that I missed a penalty in a competitive match. What happened last year was due to some confusion in the final.
Q: What does it mean for you to win the Qatar Cup final?
A: The Qatar Cup is for the top four teams and it means a lot to me. If we won the title, it will be our first. Also it will mean gaining our second title this season after the QSL title, with some big hopes to win the Emir Cup title as well, to achieve the historical trio.
Q: Is Lekhwiya capable of accomplishing the trio this season?
A: Well, that is our aim so we will aim to win the Qatar Cup and then the Emir Cup. We have a huge an ambitious target this year and we still want too well in the Asian Champions League too.
Q: Are you not worried that Lekhwiya is taking on too much with all these targets?
A: We face huge pressure but we are capable of overcoming all challenges and difficulties. Lekhwiya has high quality players and we are working for the benefit of the team and the fans.
Q: What’s changed in your team compared with last year?
A: Honestly the team is a more focused state that last year and is more stable.
Q: Are you ready for the final despite your minor injury?
A: I am 100% ready for the game. I have no injuries to complain at the moment, I had a slight niggle after the semi-final but I am feeling fine now.
