Speaker of the Shura Council H E Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim with heads of parliaments and officials on the sidelines of Counter-Terrorism Coordination Meeting for Parliamentary Policy Dialogue.
Doha: Speaker of the Shura Council H E Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim met separately with President of the Senate of the Republic of Zimbabwe and President of African Parliamentary Union H E Mabel Memory Chinomona, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean H E Pedro Roque, and Executive Secretary of the Interparliamentary Committee of the G5 H E Sahel Tankoano Norbert.
These meetings came on the sidelines of the Third Counter-Terrorism Coordination Meeting for Parliamentary Policy Dialogue on border security and cross-border cooperation in the context of counter-terrorism, which was held in Doha, and organised by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Doha-based UN Program Office on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism, in cooperation with the Shura Council.
Speaker of the Shura Council discussed with the parliamentary officials a number of matters related to strengthening the role of parliaments in supporting national and international efforts in counter terrorism, in addition to discussing the parliamentary cooperation and relations and ways to advance them.
The participants praised the efforts by the State of Qatar in fighting terrorism and extremism, noting its constant endeavours to enhance international peace and security, and its contribution to achieve sustainable developments goals.
They also noted the importance of the activities organised by UNOCT and the Doha-based UN Program Office on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism, appreciating the support of the Shura Council for the activities of the office.
