Most of those over 38, 440 killed in the Israeli war on Gaza are innocent Palestinians, including 16,000 children since the war began on October 7 last year. Nearly three-quarters of Gaza has been turned into rubble due to Israeli attacks targeting civilian residential areas. No principles, rules or red lines of international humanitarian law have been observed rather intentionally violated.
There have been massacre after massacres of children, women and the innocent civilians in Gaza, but the complete inaction to stop the Israeli war highlights the double standards of the world powers that have different set of policies when it comes to conflicts in Ukraine and other parts of the world. They could have forced Israel to stop the genocide and destruction of civilian infrastructure by not providing weapons and slapping sanctions on the Jewish state as they do in cases of conflicts in other parts of the world.
In genocide of massive scale, an Israeli airstrike killed at least 90 and injured 300 Palestinians at the Al Mawasi humanitarian zone in Gaza on Saturday. The displaced people sheltering in the area said their tents were torn down by the force of the strike, describing bodies and body parts strewn on the ground. Al Mawasi is an area that the Israeli army has repeatedly urged Palestinians to head to after issuing evacuation orders from other areas.
In another incident on Saturday, at least 20 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli attack on a prayer hall at a camp for the displaced in the Gaza City. United Nations chief Antonio Guterres in a statement said he was “shocked and saddened” by the civilian deaths, which underscored “nowhere is safe in Gaza,” and said international humanitarian law must be upheld.
Qatar condemned in the strongest terms the attack by Israeli forces targeting the tents of displaced in the Al Mawasi area of Khan Younis in southern Gaza. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the repeated heinous crimes of the Occupation Forces, underscoring the urgent need for immediate international action to end the Israeli aggression and provide protection to Palestinians.
The Ministry warned that Israel’s disregard for Palestinian lives and its repeated attempts to strip them of their rights guaranteed by the international law will undermine global efforts aimed at implementing the two-state solution, thereby expanding the cycle of violence in the region and threatening international peace and security.
Meanwhile, Qatar is playing a leading role for ceasefire in Gaza. Talks are underway in Doha and Cairo, but negotiations have been halted after days of intense talks. The negotiators cited the behaviour of Israeli mediators as revealing “internal discord”.
