DOHA: The student leadership conference ‘Taqadam: Tanmeea, Enjaz, Qiaadah’ organised yesterday by Qatar University (QU) Student Affairs, brought together around 400 students from colleges and universities across the country.
It was a platform for students to discuss, share knowledge and learn strategies on driving change, developing leadership skills and solving problems in a local, regional and global context. The forum was organised in collaboration with College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q); Community College of Qatar (CCQ); Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU); and Stenden University Qatar.
It aimed to leverage the students’ participation in leadership training and prepare them for transition to the workplace.
QU President Dr Hassan Rashid Al Derham; CNA-Q President Dr Ken MacLeod; QU Vice-President, Student Affairs, Dr Khalid Al Khanji; QU Associate Vice-President, Student Life and Services, Abdulla Al Yafei; several QU, CNA-Q, CCQ and HBKU officials, and QU faculty and staff were among the participants. Keynote speaker Qatari intellectual and writer Dr Jassim Al Sultan highlighted ‘Tanmeea’.
The conference agenda comprised plenary sessions led by Qatari national sports personality Mohammed Sadoon Al Kuwari and Founder, Wertaqi Youth Centre-Bahrain Salah Al Yafei. They discussed issues related to ‘Enjaz’ and ‘Qiaadah.’
A professional workshop ‘Be a Leader’ was conducted by QU Lecturer and Education Consultant Dr Abdulrahman Al Harami in addition to presentations by students from QU, CNA-Q and Stenden University.
They spoke on ‘Leadership through Self-Motivation’; ‘Inclusive Leadership: The Magic of Great Leaders’; ‘Women’s Leadership Development’; ‘Qualities of a Leader on the Light of Quran’; and ‘Man-Made Leadership’.
Dr Al Derham said, “QU is a model of society and includes targeted teamwork opportunities that highlight the spirit and skills of leadership and the ability to assume responsibilities and overcome challenges whether through academic and methodological activities or through other university or societal activities.
“The conference marks a milestone in collaboration between higher education institutions in the area of leadership development. It provides a unique platform for students to share views on topics such as women’s leadership and cultural leadership, among others.”The Peninsula
