Doha: The General Directorate of Traffic expects more turnout for the “Traffic Violations Settlement Initiative” in the coming days, and good number of people have already benefited from it.

“Discount is valid on traffic fines regardless of any restrictions registered against the vehicle,” said the General Directorate of Traffic.

As per regulations in the initiatives, people can avail 50 percent discount while paying the accumulated traffic violations in the next three months. The initiative began on December 18, 2021 and will continue till March 17, 2022.

Speaking to the Peninsula Online, Colonel Jaber Mohamed Rashid Odaiba, Assistant Director of the Media and Traffic Awareness Department at the General Directorate of Traffic said that “we are expecting more people to benefit from it in the coming days as many of them were waiting for salaries.”

“We are still in the beginning of the initiative as it started only on December 18, but despite that the turnout was good,” he added.

Regarding the payment of fines, the department said that “the payment can be made through Metrash2, e-services portal, self-service kiosks and also at traffic directorate counters.”

It also urged people to benefit from this initiative as from the beginning of next year (2022), there will be stricter legal procedures regarding traffic violations.

In a recent press conference, the Department emphasized that “as of next year 2022, there will be a new mechanism for controlling and collecting traffic violations. The (goodwill) initiative launched by the Ministry will benefit a large segment of road users, especially those who have committed traffic violations and have accumulated large sums of money.”
