LONDON---European stock markets advanced at the start of trading on Monday in subdued deals at the start of a holiday-shortened week.
London's benchmark FTSE 100 index added 0.63 percent to 6,586.26 points, Frankfurt's DAX 30 climbed 0.41 percent to 9,827.26 points and in Paris the CAC 40 gained 0.34 percent to 4,255.88 compared with Friday's close.
Asian equities also rose in thin trade Monday amid the festive season, tracking cues from Wall Street where stocks surged in a Federal Reserve-fuelled "Santa Claus rally" last week.
