Doha, Qatar: The Gold and Jewelry Committee of the Qatar Chamber (QC) recently held a joint meeting with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) to discuss key challenges facing the sector under current circumstances, along with proposed solutions.
The meeting was chaired by Nasser bin Sulaiman Al-Haider, QC Board Member and Chairman of the Committee, in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, led by Ahmed Al Marzouqi, Director of the Corporate Affairs Department at the Ministry.
The meeting addressed the challenges and obstacles facing the gold and jewelry sector, particularly under current circumstances, as well as the proposals submitted by committee members to address them. These proposals focused on issues related to the remit of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
In his remarks, Nasser Al-Haider stressed the Chamber’s commitment to addressing sector challenges in coordination with relevant authorities, highlighting the strong cooperation between the Chamber and the Ministry.
For his part, Ahmed Al Marzouqi affirmed the Ministry’s keenness to participate in the meeting to identify and monitor challenges in coordination with the Chamber, and to propose appropriate solutions in cooperation with the relevant authorities to enhance the sector’s performance and development.
He noted that the meeting highlighted several important issues, which the Ministry will study in coordination with the relevant authorities to identify appropriate solutions.
During the meeting, participants reviewed several key challenges, including declining local demand, rising global gold prices, and the need for enhanced banking facilities, particularly for gold bullion purchases. They also called for aligning local gold pricing with international prices, supporting local manufacturing, providing suitable warehouses, and enhancing coordination among relevant authorities to facilitate licensing procedures.
The participants agreed on the importance of holding regular committee meetings to address ongoing challenges in coordination with relevant authorities.
