Officials at the MoU signing ceremony.

DOHA: The Supreme Education Council (SEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Qatar Shell to promote the Enterprise Challenge Qatar programme in all Independent and private secondary schools.
The programme, delivered by Bedaya Center and Qatar Shell, is an initiative that inspires young Qataris to become entrepreneurs by enhancing their business knowledge and equipping them with business skills.
The SEC will be the educational partner of the programme. Every student will dedicate about 30 voluntary hours in their school activities to participate in the programme.
The programme has levels for high school and university students and is made up of three parts — Ethical Business Challenge, which tests participants’ ability to balance the economic, environmental and social performance of their company; Business Simulation which familiarises students with general business concepts from inception through to trading, finance, sales, marketing and production; and Grand Finals, where universities and school groups compete with other teams to demonstrate their business skills with the highest scoring teams winning the overall competition.
Reema Abukhadija, Director,  Educational Supervision Office, of SEC, said: “Our support to the programme reflects our belief in the importance of spreading the culture of entrepreneurship among students, enabling them to acquire necessary knowledge and skills to face challenges of the 21st century.”
Mohammed Abu Jbara, Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, Qatar Shell, said: “ The importance of this MoU is that it will enable a positive impact of the programme to reach a larger number of students in secondary Independent and private schools.”
The programme for schools starts in January next year and culminate in a Grand Final competition in April. It was created by Mosaic, a UK-based not-for-profit organisation established by the Prince of Wales in 2007, with mentoring programmes to foster opportunities for young people.
Since its inauguration, the programme has continued to expand its positive impact, engaging over 1,200 students from schools and universities across Qatar in the spirit of entrepreneurship.
