Brussels: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed Thursday the 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and the Israeli occupation, announced by US President Donald Trump.

In a statement, von der Leyen affirmed that Europe will continue to demand respect for Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, noting that the conflict has claimed many lives and that reaching a ceasefire is a relief.

She added that Europe will continue to demand full respect for Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing the EU's continued support for the Lebanese people through the provision of substantial humanitarian aid.

US President Donald Trump announced the agreement on a ten-day ceasefire between Lebanon and the Israeli occupation, beginning at 5:00 PM Eastern Time (midnight Mecca time).
