DOHA: The eighth Empower Youth Conference organised by Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) opens tomorrow at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Student Centre.
H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson, ROTA, will inaugurate the conference which will be held under the theme ‘Innovation in Youth Social Entrepreneurship.’
Minister of Economy and Commerce H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, ROTA Board Member Dr Sheikha Aisha bint Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani and ROTA Executive Director Essa Al Mannai will be among the attendees at the opening ceremony.
The three-day event will be attended by over 450 local and international youth aged 17-30 years. It will raise awareness of opportunities and challenges relating to entrepreneurship amongst Qatar’s young population, and will include a combination of seminar panel discussions, keynote speeches, exhibition spaces and group workshops.
Over the first and the second day of the conference, 48 workshops and two panel discussions will be held for participants to learn about the concepts of crowd funding, innovation in product creation, entrepreneurship and the power of social networking, among other topics.
On the third day, participants will be given a tour of some of Qatar Foundation’s academic institutions, including Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, where they will have the opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills acquired during the workshops. They will also visit Qatar Incubation Business Center and Qatar Scientific Club, and will participate in a set of activities facilitated by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) at the HBKU Student Centre.
The conference will serve as a discussion forum, where participants will be asked to devise solutions to increase the contribution of youth in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Qatar National Vision 2030, using the youth social entrepreneurship business methodology.
ROTA has partnered with Qatar Charity (humanitarian partner), the Qatar Financial Centre (private sector partner), and the Qatar National Convention Centre (hospitality partner) to sponsor EMPOWER 2016.The Peninsula
