DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has carried out an urgent relief campaign in cyclone-hit areas in Yemen, benefiting about 3,000 people.
Since last Saturday, 500 families affected by the cyclone in Socotra, Hadramaut, Al Mahrah, and Shabwah have received basic supplies and clothing.
QC’s field team is assessing the situation and damage to launch another relief campaign and to rebuild destroyed properties.
QC distributed food baskets to the families, containing flour, rice, sugar, cooking oil, baby milk and legumes, among other items.
Each family also received four blankets, four mattresses, four pieces of clothes for children and kitchen tools. Engineer Rashid bin Fatis Al Marri, Director of Relief, QC, said the charity was the first to offer aid to the Yemeni people hit by the Chapala Cyclone.
Statistics show that 10,000 people have been displaced following the cyclone, which also uprooted hundreds of palm trees, killed thousands of cattle and damaged hundreds of fishing boats, electricity poles and communication lines.
Meanwhile, about 840,000 people benefited from QC’s QR21.5m aid set aside for Yemen this year because of the crisis.
