Doha: Kuwaiti rider Mohammed Jaffar clinched victory in the second round of Losail MX Championship overcoming a tough battle with the British rider Benjamin Menzies who came second in the MX 1 category.
Emirati rider Sultan Al Balooshi came in third place in MX1.
The Kuwaiti rider, finished second in the first race but in the second moto, Jaffar got the hole shoot, leading the race until the checkered flag and took the win.
“In the first race I crashed twice,” Jaffer said.
“In the second crash I broke the major bold of the bike which is holding the frame so I rode the rest of the race all standing, managing to I finished second. Before start of the second race, I prepared the bike and although it was not 100% prepared I took chance to enter the second race; I took the hole shoot and the lead for the MX1 class,” said Jaffer.
“I am really proud of this weekend, because yesterday I was also racing in Dubai, finishing in good position and here I won so this is a perfect weekend. Thanks to QMMF for their hospitality every time and to Red Bull, Adidas, Sun Garde, Balooshi Racing Team; MX Academy and Drag 965 for their support,” Jaffar said after the races.
Benjamin Menzies, with a Honda, managed to win in the first race but in the second one, he had a crash in the first lap that made it difficult to repeat the win
“It is nice to be here back in Qatar, I feel like I am getting more used to the track very time I ride. Race 1 I had some problems, I stoled and I crashed also Jaffar, so kind of balanced out and I showed dominance towards the end of the race when I continued but in the second race, unfortunately I crashed on the first lap and from there it makes a very difficult for me to catch up but I feel my speed is there, we have been working with the new bike I think we are making progress, it is tight for the first place but we are doing good so I will try in the next race to do it better,” said Menzies.
In the MX2 category, British rider Ryan Blair who took the victory in both races.
“The track was really good and I enjoyed a lot today with some nice lines, no mistakes and no crash, so a perfect day. Many thanks to QMMF for the great event and looking forward the next round,” said Blair.
Kuwaiti riders Meshari Abou Shaibah and Moath Al Ansari came second and third respectively in the MX2.
The Honduras rider Sarah Handal was very happy to be back at the Losail MX track.
“I am very glad to be back, I enjoyed a lot racing here with these guys, they are very tough. I like the track a lot although it requires a lot of physical training and I am trying to get better each time and I hope the next time it will be much better. Many thanks to QMMF and Mr Nasser for this great opportunity to race here and all the support ‘said Sara after the races.”
The Emirati rider Ali Al Kubaisi was the winner in the veterans category.
“I am very happy with the win of today and my lead in the championship. I enjoyed today a lot, the track is perfect, one of the best tracks in the Middle East. I came today with my son that is participating in the Junior class and I would like to thanks to QMMF for the organization and for the chance to the Juniors to participate in this great championship ‘said the Emirati rider.”
In the Junior MX 65, the winner was the Emirati rider Ahmed Al Nuaimi and the Omani rider Faisal Al Busaidi came second and Josep Mortada from Great Britain was third. The Italian rider Eugenio Barbaglia was first in the Junior MX 85 with Abdullah Al Nuaimi second and Bandar Al Bahar third.

“We are very happy with the second round of Losail MX Championship, there was a good competition between all the categories, specially now the Junior class is increasing and we have a good number of participants, thanks to all the families who are behind the juniors to support them. I want to congratulate to all the riders in the different categories who win so it was a good day and good fun and I sure in the future we will have more participants,” said QMMF President.
In the MX1, Jaffar and Menzies are sharing the lead of the championship with 47 points and Sultan Al Balooshi is third with 40 point.
Ryan Blair is leading the MX2 category with 100 points and Meshari Abou Shaibah is second with 88 and Moath Al Ansari third with 80 points.
In the Veterans category, the lead is for Ali Al Kubaisi with 94 points and Tomi Sarivaara second with 82 points. The next round for Losail MX Championship will be on December 4.
