Doha: Oleg Engachev won the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol to clinch the second gold medal at the ongoing Emir Cup Shooting and Archery Championship at the Losail Shooting Range.
On Saturday, Engachev had won the 50m pistol event.
Yesterday, the Asian Games gold medal winner in the men’s 25 centre fire pistol at last year’s Games in South Korea, overcame the challenge of Maltsev Konstantin to emerge on top.
Engachev shot 23 in the six-shooter final to top the field.
Konstantin could card only 21. Both Engachev and Konstantin were locked at 19 before the final shot. While Engachev got 4, Konstantin could gain only two and lost the first place by two points.
Mohammed Hasan was a distant third with 13 hits.
Ali Hassan Morshed secured the fourth place when he got only 9. He was followed by Riyaz Rustam Khan (seven) and Adel Rustam Khan (4).
In the 50m pistol too Konstantin lost to Engachev and had to take the silver medal.
Engachev dominated at last year’s Emir Cup where he won three gold. He did not take part in the recently concluded Qatar Cup as he was on a vacation.
Yesterday Engachev seemed to have started from where he left on Saturday hitting the target with perfection.
Ali Mohamed Al Kuwari, the head of the tournament organising committee, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. He praised the efforts of all the three winners, especially young Mohammed Hasan Al Tamimi for landing the third place against the experienced shooters.
Today the final of the 10m Air Rifle will take place. The shooting events of the championship organised by Qatar Shooting and Archery Association will finish on March 21. The archery events will be held for two days and will take place on March 27 and 28.
