Kuwait:  GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi affirmed on Wednesday that everyone is following the great and notable efforts made by the GCC states to enhance the safeguarding of public funds in all its forms through their regulatory bodies.

AlBudaiwi was addressing the 22nd meeting of Their Excellencies the Heads of the Financial and Accounting Audit Bureaus of the GCC states, held in Kuwait City.

What reinforces these efforts and ensures their integration are the continuous endeavors of the Gulf oversight bodies to develop their performance and promote coordination and complementarity among their activities, AlBudaiwi stressed.

He further asserted the keenness to advance the joint Gulf cooperation in the field of audit and accountability, underscoring that the oversight bodies are acutely aware of the responsibility entrusted to them by Their Majesties and Highnesses, the Leaders of the GCC States.

AlBudaiwi clarified that the meeting reflects the utmost commitment and attention to realizing the aspirations of the peoples of the GCC States, noting that the General Secretariat prepared the agenda for this meeting based on the outcomes of the 26th meeting of the Undersecretaries, held on July 30, which encompassed a set of significant topics that contribute to advancing the joint work in oversight and accountability.

Among the foremost topics discussed were the strategic training plan for the period 2023-2025, which includes initiatives that support development efforts and capacity-building in oversight work, as well as the draft strategic training plan for the period 2026-2028, extending the previous plan and aiming to anticipate the requirements of the forthcoming stage while enhancing professional competence in oversight bodies.

In addition, he pointed out that the meeting addressed the draft regulatory framework for the Excellence in Public Service Award, which seeks to motivate personnel and elevate institutional performance in the oversight bodies of the GCC States, in addition to designating a Gulf Week for Financial Oversight and Accountability.
