Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Interior (MOI), represented by Civil Defence authorities, has urged motorists to follow a set of preventive measures to reduce the risk of vehicle fires during periods of extreme heat.
In a public awareness message, the Ministry emphasised that high temperatures can increase the likelihood of fires inside vehicles, particularly when flammable materials or heat-sensitive devices are left unattended.
Among the key recommendations, motorists are advised not to leave mobile phones, portable chargers (power banks), or other electronic devices inside parked vehicles, as prolonged exposure to heat may pose safety risks. The Ministry also warned against leaving lighters in vehicles due to the potential danger they present under high temperatures.
The guidelines further stress the importance of ensuring that vehicles are free from perfumes, hand sanitizers, and other flammable substances that could ignite when exposed to excessive heat.
In addition, drivers are urged to avoid making unsafe modifications to vehicle electrical systems, as faulty alterations can increase the risk of electrical malfunctions and fire incidents.
The Ministry highlighted that public awareness and adherence to safety instructions play a vital role in protecting lives and property, concluding its message with the reminder: “Your awareness enhances your safety.”
The campaign forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Interior and Civil Defence to promote safety and prevent accidents across the country, particularly during the summer season when temperatures reach their highest levels.
