West takes pole position at Qatar Superbike

Anthony West in action during the qualifying session of the Qatar Superbike Round 5 at the Losail International Circuit. West will start from the pole position after clocking the best lap time in the qualifying session.

Doha:  Anthony West clocked the best lap time in the qualifying session of the Qatar Superbike Round 5 to take the pole position at the Losail International Circuit.
West who clocked best lap time of 2:01.800 said the conditions were quite challenging.
“It was very windy but still happy with my lap timings. I look forward to much faster lap times and better weather conditions during the race and hope to win it,” said West.
Defending champion, Alex Cudlin made the second best lap time and West said an entertaining and interesting tussle is on the cards.
“Alex (Cudlin) raged with a fierce battle pushing hard and I am sure he will not let it be easy for me but I will try to win two races,” said West after the qualifying session.
Cudlin also said the tussle for supremacy will be between him and West.
“I think it will be a big fight with Anthony. Mishal (Mishel Al Naimi, is ahead of me in the championship and I need to beat him every time I can. Let’s see what happend. 15 laps is a long race and anything can happen, so I will have to make a clean race with zero mistakes,” said Cudlin, ahead of the race.
Nasser Al Malki got the third best time in the qualifying of 2:03.658.
“I am happy and confident with my bike. I will try to get good results and finish on the podium,”  said Al Malki.
The Leader of the championship Mashel Al Naimi ended in the fourth position with 2:03.938 lap time.
In Supersport, Qatar’s Fahid Al Sowaidi emerged as the fastest rider while Colombian John Mario Garcia topped in the LARSS category.
In the Qatar Challenge round 6, Mark Holroyd took the pole position with a lap time of 2:26.499 and gain some advantage going into the race.
The second position went to Talal Wehbe, who clocked the best lap time of 2:29.154.
Peter De Vido, will start from the third position as he did a lap time of 2:30.399.
