Doha: Lulu Hypermarket Qatar, region's leading retailer, launched the ‘Proudly from Qatar’ promotion at its Abu Sidra branch yesterday.
Launched in cooperation with the Agricultural Affairs Department of the Ministry of Municipality, the campaign offers premium vegetables and fruits from local farms at competitive prices. The festival was jointly inaugurated by Head of Guidance and Agricultural Services Section at the Agricultural Affairs Department, Ahmed Salem Al Yafei and Member of Central Municipal Council (CMC) Mubarak Fereesh with a ribbon cutting yesterday, marking the beginning of agricultural season.
The ceremony was attended by Adviser of the Ministry of Municipality, Dr. Mohamed Awad Al Serr; Director of Lulu Group International, Dr. Mohamed Althaf; and many distinguished Qatari nationals and dignitaries from various public and private sector organisations.
Addressing the event, Ahmed Salem Al Yafei said, “We thank you for this successful inauguration. The idea of this festival is to open the marketing door for the owners of Qatari farms. We started the Qatar Farms and the Premium Qatari Vegetables programmes in 2016 with only 8 farms, and today the number of participating farms reached over 250 farms. The sales are increasing remarkably as this year Qatar Farms programme sold 20,000 tonnes and Premium Qatari Vegetables programme nearly 5,000 tonnes vegetables.
“The main goal is to support the owners of local farms and to consumers as well enabling them to gets fresh, clean, examined products under the supervision by the Ministry of Municipality. We thank Lulu management for the support they provide to local farm owners and for supporting this programme.”
An official from the Lulu Management said, “The ‘Proudly from Qatar’ campaign has been launched to announce that the agricultural season began in Qatar, during which local farms supply large quantity of fresh vegetables to the market. The government support enabled local farmers to offer high-quality produce at very competitive prices, especially during the season. Every year Lulu Group celebrates the harvest season of local agricultural produce with high importance.
