Paris: Minister of Education, Higher Education and Supreme Education Council (SEC) Secretary- General H E Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi met Mali’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Montage Tulle at the Unesco headquarters in Paris yesterday.
Dr Al Hammadi, who is heading a Qatari delegation to the 38th session of the general conference of Unesco, also held separate meetings with Finnish Minister of Education and Culture Sanni Grahn-Laasonen, Pakistani Minister of State for Federal Education Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman, Swedish Minister of Education Gustav Fridolin, Afghanistan’s Minister of Higher Education Farida Moumen and Minister of Education Dr Asadullah Hanif Balki and Philippine president’s Higher Education Office Commission Member Dr Patricia Iswanan.
Talks dealt issues of common interest, particularly in the education sector, and ways to enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences in the areas of training and scientific research.
They also reviewed issues discussed at the conference and member states’ contribution to activating Unesco’s role to achieves its goals and objectives in the service of humanity.
Dr Al Hammadi stressed the importance of education and its mission, highlighting Qatar’s contributions in support of education at the international level through initiatives, including ‘Educate A Child’ for children deprived of education because of conflicts, poverty and different conditions.
He also highlighted the state’s initiatives for children and young people and education of refugees and displaced persons.
Qatar is taking part in the session which runs until November 18.
Qatar’s delegation includes representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the SEC, University of Qatar, Qatar Museums Authority, Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science and Ali Zainal, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to Unesco.
