Assistant Undersecretary for Private Schools Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Omar Al Nama, has said that Education Excellence Award has succeeded in attracting large number of participants during the past 15 years.
Al Nama was speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of a ceremony held yesterday at Doha Sheraton Hotel to honour 72 winners of 15th Education Excellence Award.
A total of 267 candidates contested in nine categories of the award for this year. During its 15-year journey, the number of distinguished honourees of the Education Excellence Award has reached about 800 individuals and institutions of various categories.
“The award of this year witnessed great competitions among the candidates in all categories participating from schools and universities,” said Al Nama.
He said that parents and students attached great importance to the award. “It is a great honour for winners to receive the award from the hands of Amir H H Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani,” he added.
He said that more students from schools and universities are expected to participate in the next editions of the awards during coming year.
“We would like to see more participants and winners for this prestigious award which encourages contestants for excellence,” said Al Nama.
To a question about participation of private schools and universities, he said that a number of candidates from private schools and universities contested in this year award and some of them won the medals.
“With increasing awareness about the importance of the award, I expect more participation from private institutions in coming years,” said Al Nama.
Speaking about the goals of the award, he said that the state through this award aims at creating a culture of excellence among the students so they can serve their county in a better way. Assistant Undersecretary for Evaluation Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Khalid Abdullah Al Harqan, said that Education Excellence Award indicates that how much Qatar and its wise leadership H H the Amir are keen to support to bring excellence in education sector.
“I hope that the winners of Education Excellence Award will be excellent in their practical life making great contribution in the development of the country,” said Al Harqan.
Director of the Private Schools Affairs Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Rashid Ahmed Al Ameri, said that today is very special day where the Ministry is celebrating 15th Education Excellence Award in the presence of H H the Amir.
“The award has been receiving great support by H H the Amir. The entire state is supporting the award which aims to build a culture of excellence among our students, research scholars and teachers to improve the education quality in the country,” said Al Ameri.
He said that private schools and universities are participating actively in this award. “Our students have been participating in educational contests in Qatar and out of the country where they secured higher positions,” said Al Ameri.
