Aquatic Research Centre run by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) at Ras Matbakh is preparing to open a hatchery soon to produce baby shrimps for farming.
Aquatic Research Centre which was opened last year is part of state efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in fresh food production in the country.
“The work is in full swing to open a hatchery for shrimp at the Aquatic Research Centre,” said Director of the Centre, Ibrahim Salman Al Mohannadi in a video posted on the social site of MME.
He said that the key sections of the centres are live food and fish hatchery.“The live food section was commenced for this season which is producing foods for fish like Algae and seaweeds,” said Al Mohannadi.
He said that the fish hatchery is producing baby fish of four types of local fish including Hamour, Shahri, Sebaiti and Al Safi.
