Vienna: Member of the ruling People’s Party and Vice President of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Austrian Parliament H E Dr. Reinhold Lopatka has hailed Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s announcement to hold the Shura Council elections in October 2021.

He described the decision as a qualitative leap to consolidate the democratic process in the State of Qatar.

He affirmed his country’s readiness to provide all possible forms of support to the State of Qatar for the success of these elections, which would enhance the legislative process with wider participation of citizens, pointing out that this comes as a continuation of the renaissance process the country is witnessing at all levels.

Dr. Reinhold Lopatka also emphasised that the Shura Council elections are of great importance in Qatar, given its role in monitoring the implementation of laws, decisions and regulations related to the government’s powers and competencies and will support the role of the legislative authority, especially in light of the expansion of the powers of the elected council so that it has greater legislative and oversight powers that enhance transparency and benefit the people.

This came during Dr. Reinhold Lopatka’s meeting with Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Austria and the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna H E Sultan bin Salmeen Al Mansouri.
