Doha: FIA Vice-president Nasser bin Khalifa Al Attiyah yesterday announced the return of the Rally Abu Dhabi International, which will take place within the agenda of the 2014 FIA Middle Middle East Rally Championship.
A preliminary event will be held in Abu Dhabi in the middle of October to formally adopt the event as an official round of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship for the 2015 season.
Al Attiyah congratulated the Abu Dhabi government on this achievement and congratulated Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi for his leading role in the return of the Rally Abu Dhabi International on the agenda of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship again. The absence of the rally would affect the future of the sport in the UAE.
Al Attiyah also talked about the inclusion of Oman and Iran into the international agenda of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship.
As FIA Vice-President, Al Attiyah is in charge of looking after the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Plans and strategies have already been implemented through fruitful cooperation with more than 20 federations and clubs recognized by the International Federation of cars with decisions and recommendations being implemented on the ground related to the future of motorsport in the Middle East and North Africa.
