Doha: Elite Force Choudhary B defeated Sarandeep/Stallions (combined side) by six wickets to win the West End Park Eid Tournament at West End Park Stadium here on Thursday.
The second installment of the West End Park Eid Tournament featured five eight-a-side teams who played a total of seven matches. The teams played each other in round robin format.
The Stallions batted first and started brightly but faded as the innings progressed. They ended up with 54 in the stipulated 7 overs. Rajiv scored 20 runs, Umer 13.
Choudhary B were aggressive from the start and needed only 5 overs reach 57 runs for the loss of only one wicket.
Faiasal, named player of the tournament, hit 22 runs and Farhan 24 for Choudhary B who won prize money of QR 6,000.
The talking point of the evening was the introduction of the super bowl rule to establish the second team to qualify to
the final. Following the round robin, three teams were each on four points but only one could proceed. A draw between Elite Force Choudhary A, Al-Hanzab and Sarandeep/Stallions saw the latter given a bye to the next stage, with Choudhary A and Al-Hanzab playing first in a one over match.
The final play-off was between Sarandeep vs Al Hanzab that had onlookers on the edge of their seats.
Sarandeep eventually qualified to play Choudhary B in a tensely-contested affair.
West End Park Chairman Mana Ibrahim Al Mana said: “Congratulations to all five participating teams for making the Eid Tournament a great success. The games were contested closely and Elite Force Choudhary B emerged worthy victors.”
