Doha: Al-Feroz Youngsters CC defeated Elite Force Choudhary CC by 41 runs to win the inaugural West End Park Ramadan Tournament at West End Park Stadium here on Thursday.

The chief guest of honour, Mr Mana Al Mana, Chairman of West End Park, joined around 500 fans to watch the final.

The champions took home prize money of QR 50,000 while the runners-up collected QR 25,000.

Al-Feroz won the toss and elected to bat. The impressive Inam Ul Haq blasted 49 runs and Faisel scored 33 to help their side reach a total of 175/6 in the stipulated 20 overs. The Al Feroz innings took a little time to gather speed — after 12 overs the total was a modest 70 runs. However, over 100 runs were scored in the last eight overs to give Elite Force plenty to think about during the break.

Kaaleed was the pick of the Elite Force bowlers with three wickets and Kamran Khan scalped two.

Elite Force got off to a steady start but were unable to replicate the aggressive batting displayed by Al-Feroz in the late overs. They ultimately fell 41 runs short of their target.

Iqbal (47) and Farhan (18) put in good performances for Elite Force to take them to 134/6 in 20 overs. Al-Feroz’s bowlers Nadeem and Inam Ul Haq scalped two wickets each. Inam Ul Haq was adjudged Man-of-the-Match.

“Congratulations to Al-Feroz and Elite Force for delivering high-quality performances worthy of a final. Al-Feroz are indeed deserving champions with consistent performances throughout,” Al Mana said.

“I am delighted that the tournament has been so well received and the international-class facilities at West End Park were enjoyed by the cricket fraternity in Qatar. The tournament has been a great advertisement for local cricket,” he said.

“The good news is that there are plans for more local and international tournaments in the

coming months, the first of which will be a smaller format tournament to celebrate Eid Al Fitr next week.

“Special thanks to H E Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani for his support of the Ramadan Tournament,” Al Mana added.
