Ramadan events launched

The QSports has announced the launch of their Ramadan tournaments in which a total of 11 seperate tournaments involving eight different sports will be held during the holy month.  

DOHA: QSports has officially confirmed the launch of their Ramadan tournaments and invites the residents of Qatar to participate in a number of sporting events taking place during the holy month.
According to the details, the tournaments are open to all and people are able to register as teams or individuals.
With 11 separate tournaments being held – covering activities in 8 different sports and with specific tournaments for both men and women – there are options open for everyone to ensure they have the chance to remain active throughout the month of July. The tournaments are being held at Al Rayyan Sports Club, Ibn Khuldoun School and a variety of locations around Doha and Qatar to ensure easy access for all.
The organisers said that the registrations were open on the QSports website and participants were able to sign up as individuals or as part of a team.
The tournaments are meant to give everyone a chance to play a sport.
According to the organisers, if anyone would like to play and don’t have a team, he or she can sign up as a “free agent’ and QSports will make every effort to place you in a team. Participants can play basketball (men & women), Volleyball (men & women), football, seven-a-side, mini-football, badminton (mixed), indoor action cricket, futsal & cricket (grass field).
The activities will take place after the daily breaking of the fast (between the hours of 8:30pm 1am) and all the tournaments are compressed to ensure they are completed during Ramadan.
Game results and standings will be posted on www.qsports.qa and a weekly round-up will be published in ‘QSports Corner’ of Doha Stadium magazine. QSports has exciting cash prizes & gifts for the winning teams.  
“Supported by the Qatar Olympic Committee, the Ramadan tournaments are very popular with the residents of Qatar and we hope to enlist more corporate sponsors in the coming days,” said Mohammed Zaabalawi, CEO of QSports.
Ghanim Al Mohannadi, Deputy Chairman of QSports, explained ‘this is the 4th year that we have held Ramadan tournaments and I am pleased that we have yet again managed to increase the number of sports tournaments that we can offer to the residents of Qatar – each year there has been an increase in the number of participants wanting to get involved in different activities.
“Last year we had over 1500 people participating so I definitely hope we can see similar numbers this year.”THE PENINSULA
