DOHA: Qatar referee Abdul Rahman Ibrahim Jassim (pictured) will officiate in the final of the Cargills FA Cup to be played in the Sri Lankan capital today.
A tournament that is 75 years old, it will be the first time that a foreign match referee will officiate in the final to be played at Sugathadasa Stadium.
This is the result of the Referees Exchange Program initiated by the FFSL President Ranjith Rodrigo with Qatar Football Association (QFA) President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmad Al Thani during his recent visit to Qatar.
On completion of this final, some of the Sri Lankan referees are set to fly Doha to officiate in the Qatar Stars League (QSL) games, a news report said yesterday.
“This is the great opportunity for our referees to gain experience at professional leagues and improve their skills” said Sri Lankan football chief Ranjith Rodrigo said in the report.
The final today is to be played between Army and Blue Star.
