Arab Karate Championship kicks off today in Doha

The two-day Arab  Karate Championship organised by QKF willbegin today from 9.00am onwards at Al Gharafa Indoor Hall.

Doha: Hosts Qatar will field a nine-member team at the Arab Karate Championship for men and women which kicks off today at Al Gharafa Indoor hall.

The ten countries which are taking part in the championship are Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon, UAE, Yemen and Palestine, besides hosts Qatar.

Eight countries have come with their women squads and will be aiming for the top honours in the team and five individual events in different weight categories and also in the Kata and Kumite events. 

The championship will be held in Kata Individual, Kata Team men, besides Kumite weight categories of  -60kg, -67kg, -75kg, -84kg and +84kg. 

In the women’s section, players will compete in Kata Individual, Kata Team, besides Kumite weight categories of  -50kg, -55kg, -61kg, -68kg and +68kg.  The Qatar men’s team consists of Abdulla Shalwom, Qassim Ghauidel, Hosam Momdhou, Ibrahim Aizbydi, Abdulla Dalloul, Alaa Yassin Elwakel, Adham Nasser, Ali Hamad and Ahmed Adham.

Teyseer Group and Seashore Group are the two sponsors of the championship, the organisers Qatar Karate Federation said.  THE PENINSULA
