Doha: Rasim Yasar from Turkey maintained his consistent form for the fourth consecutive day to hold on to the leader’s position at the Qatar Optimist Cup.
Yasar, who helped Turkey win the Team Racing title on Monday, now has 15 points at the end of eight races in the 12-race competition.
Compatriot Okyanus Arikan is in second place with 39 points followed by Marsha Shahrin of Singapore with 40 points.
After experiencing indifferent sailing conditions for the first three days, the sailors had something to cheer about yesterday.
Excellent sailing conditions made competition very interesting with Yasar, leader for the last two days, hanging on to his lead.
Yasar had a good start and he was comfortable sailing in the upward speed on a day which as per the original schedule was set aside to be a rest day.
The organisers held four races on the spare day to clear the backlog of races which had to be cancelled because of low wind on the first and second day of the event. THE PENINSULA
