Doha: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) trounced Malaysian Politeknik 5-0 to register their second consecutive win in the Doha Hockey Friendship Festival (DHFF) at the Al Rayyan Stadium  here yesterday.
Playing two consecutive days, did not seem to faze the PIA team and they were off to a flying start once again in their game against Malaysian Politeknik (MSP).
The Malaysians seemed to be a very fit and young side, but they were no match for the experienced PIA players, who opened the scoring through a field goal from Waqas Akbar.
The second goal for PIA was not far behind and Hammad Shakil Butt, who dazzled throughout the match easily beat the MSP goalkeeper MD Ridzwan under the bar to make it 2-0.
The Malaysians tried their level best to equalise, but Muhammad Irfan in the PIA defense repulsed all the attacks.  At the other end, PIA forwards kept up the pressure and manage to slip two more goals past the MSP defense in quick succession through Muhammad Zubair and Asfar Yaqoob to take a commnading 4-0.
The four goals did not seem to deter the Malaysians.
they came up with the ocassional attacks and earned the first penalty corner of the match, but were unable to convert, whilst on the counter attack, it was PIA’s turn to get a penalty corner and their corner specialist, Ihsanullah made no mistake beating the MSP goalkeeper hands down, 5-0.
PIA could not add any more goals thereafter, while the Malaysians did not trouble the scorers.
The final score thus read 5-0. Today’s game features the Malaysian Politeknik against Qatar. The winner will take PIA in the final, on Thursday.
