DOHA: The Deputy CEO of Qatar Stars League (QSL) Hani Balan (pictured left) yesterday applauded El Jaish’s performance after the Doha football side won the Qatar Cup in what was the first ever edition of the new championship.
In the final on Saturday, El Jaish beat Lekhwiya on penalties after both teams were level at 1-1 in regulation time.
Balan said: “I was most impressed with the high quality of the match between Lekhwiya and El Jaish, especially in the first half. I was pleased with the organisation of the first ever Qatar Cup.”
Bani also commented on the entertainment provided for the tournament final and said that El Jaish would always be remembered for winning the first edition of the new Cup.
“I would take this opportunity to congratulate El Jaish and Lekhwiya for the optimum performance,” Balan added.
“I applaud their hard work during the season, for their general professionalism,” he added.
“A lot of credit should go to their management because they really built up two good teams that can compete on a high level. They were first and second in the league respectively and they are competing in the final of the first ever Qatar Cup which has a precious name. El Jaish will forever be remembered for winning the first ever Qatar Cup,” he said.
“I am very happy as the Deputy CEO of the organisation about the way the tournament was presented, from the branding, to the design of the trophy to the launch and to the final and also the whole season which is still not over yet.
“I could feel the happiness during the final. The atmosphere in the stadium was great. I felt the passion of the two teams and spirit to win was remarkable,” he added.
“It has proven to be a big event and that was the intention and it will continue to be a highlight of the Qatari football calendar.
“This is a chance to really thank everyone - all the employees of the QSL, every member of staff who worked hard to make such a great day,” Balan said.
“There are people who have worked hard behind the scenes who are not seen but they did so much to make this event successful. I would like to give a special thanks to all QSL staff,” he said.
“They should feel proud of themselves for delivering such a great event,” Balan said. THE PENINSULA
