QSL: Hosts Al Khor take on El Jaish today

April 11, 2014 - 1:05:25 am

DOHA: The final round of the Qatar Stars League (QSL) is finally here and the match of the week is between possible relegation-threatened Al Khor and El Jaish who are still trying to secure second place in the league.

Al Khor failed to make the most of their game against Al Kharaitiyat at home last week as both teams failed to score.

With 29 points and languishing in 10th place, the knights realize that things will be even tougher this week as they face the second best team in the league.

El Jaish could still finish in third if they lose and Al Sadd wins.

In this scenario both Sadd and Jaish would be on 47 points but with Al Sadd having a better goal difference (+9) they would take second spot.

Consequently El Jaish has plenty of motivation going into this clash with Al Khor in round 26.

Al Khor’s form in last six games is: LLWDWD and El Jaish’s form in last six games is: WDDWWW.

This bodes well for the Military who have done well both in the QSL and AFC Champions league respectively.

Both teams want to win but for different reasons, Al Khor should have the better motivation but whether they will buckle under the pressure is another matter.

From 9th placed Kharaitiyat to Al Rayyan in 13th position things look tricky as all sides look to save their skins.

Al Rayyan don’t have control of their own fate and will have to hope that other teams who lose have a worse goal difference than them.

With Al Kharaitiyat, Al Khor, Al Wakrah, Qatar SC and Al Rayyan vulnerable to relegation, round 26 of the QSL will end in dramatic, nail biting fashion.

Fans will be crossing fingers and getting out their lucky charms in the hope that their team doesn’t get the chop!
