Lekhwiya beat Umm Salal, crowned QSL champions

DOHA: Lekhwiya yesterday dethroned Al Sadd as Qatar Stars League (QSL) champions by beating Umm Salal 2-1 to seal the title with two rounds to spare. Coached by Eric Gerets, Lekhwiya now have won the QSL title for the third time in just four years. 
For Lekhwiya, their 2-1 win yesterday was powered by Tae-Hee Nam in the 16th minute followed Vladimír Weiss’ strike a minute before the half-time whistle. Ibrahima Nadiya (91) produced a late goal for Umm Salal. 
After 24 rounds, Lekhwiya have an assailable tally of 53 points. 
Second-placed El Jaish can’t overtake the new champions after accumulating 44 points from 24 matches. 
Yesterday El Jaish beat Al Ahli 4-3 for their 13th win this season. 
Lekhwiya, who were guided to two QSL titles by the current Qatar coach Djamel Belmadi (2011 and 2012), have so far managed 16 wins this season. Last year’s champions Al Sadd have 41 points from 24 matches while Al Sailiyah are in fourth spot (38 points).  Al Sadd lost to Al Sailiyah 1-2 yesterday while Al Rayyan ended up with a 1-1 draw against Al Arabi.
