Sebastian Soria of Lekhwiya (in red) tackles the ball against Al Khor during their Qatar Stars League (QSL) match on Tuesday. QSL points leaders Lekhwiya won 3-1. Lekhwiya play Muaither today.

DOHA: Former champion Lekhwiya take on football minnows Muaither today, knowing a win can help Eric Gerets’ side inch towards clinching the Qatar Stars League (QSL) title for the third time.

Lekhwiya, two-time winners in the last three years, have accumulated 37 points in 18 matches and another win will help the boys in red put a gap between them and second-placed Eljaish, who have a tally of 30 points.

Eljaish will also be seen in action today when they take on Al Wakra in a 4:30pm kick-off game.

Struggling Al Rayyan - a notch above bottom-placed Muaither - play Al Gharafa who will be without their Brazilian coach Zico who left at the end of the Leopards’ last game on Tuesday.

Al Khor have a date against Al Arabi in the fourth match today.

Tomorrow, defending champions Al Sadd will visit Qatar SC in hopes of adding to their tally of 27 points from 18 matches.

In other games tomorrow, Al Sailiyah will play Al Kharaitiyat while Al Ahli - the surprise package this season - take on Umm Salal. Al Ahli are in third spot with 28 points from 18 matches.
