Doha: Lekhwiya rallied from a goal down to register a fighting 3-1 win over Al Kharaitiyat in an exciting round 15 match of the Qatar Stars League here yesterday.
With the fighting win the two-time former champions maintiained their hold over the top position. They now have 31 points from 16 matches while Al Sadd are with 27 points and have played one match less.
Lekhwiya conceded an early goal with Yahia Kiepi giving Al Kharaitiyat the lead in the 16th minute. The league leaders were trailing by a goal till the 80th minute. In the last ten minutes of the match Eric Gerets side raised the tempo to pump in three goals.
Karim Boudiaf secured the equaliser for Lekhwiya and four minutes Nam Tee Hee (84) gave them the lead and Sebastian Soria (88) put the issue beyond doubt.
In another match, Al Arabi defeated Al Sailiyah 3-2 to register their second successive win.
With yesterday’s win, Al Arabi moved to the third place with 24 points, the same as Eljaish, but have played one match less than the armymen. Eljaish again finished on the losing side yesterday with Umm Salal piling up more misery with a 2-1 defeat. An own goal in the 15th minute and a strike by Cabore in the 32 spelt dome for Eljaish. Eljaish pulled one back in the 93rd minute through Mohammed Muntari.
