Doha: FIFA World Cup 2022 hosts Qatar hosted yet another blockbuster match yesterday in the run-up to the football showpiece which gave fans their money’s worth.
The match between two European giants, Real Madrid and Ligue I leaders PSG, brought fans to Khalifa Stadium from far and wide and 50,000 fans had their moments to cheer throughout the 90-minute sellout match.
The Spanish club, in third place in the La Liga, won 1-0 over Qatar-backed PSG with Jese scoring the only goal of the match in the 19th minute.
Fans braved a consistent drizzle, which started when the first quarter of the match had ended and cheered for their favourite players.
The pick of them was Real’s Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo. Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic of PSG, and team-mate Cavani Edinson performance also came under the scanner of fans, who came from all over the GCC and other parts of Asia to watch the high-profile match.
Many of them occupied vantage positions in the stadium at noon time for the match which kicked off at 5.45pm.
Fans drove all the way from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain for the match and a large number of vehicles were seen in the parking lot of the Villaggo Mall.
Fans seeking to have a closer glimpse of the stars were also seen waiting outside the Torch Hotel for hours before the match started. THE PENINSULA
